Ideal nanny would be energetic with few competing afternoon commitments; clean driving record / has been driving in the DMV region for 5+ years; has own car; non smoker; 5+ years of experience with young children, especially nanny experience with toddler(s); diverse (background); college-education (junior college / some college is okay); energetic and engaging; reliable, prompt, proactive, safe, and aware of her surroundings; trustworthy, honest, and loyal; FLEXIBLE when possible (both parents have demanding work schedules which occasionally cause work “emergencies”) It would be helpful if nanny could work full days on school Holidays; Knowledge of Montessori lifestyle is appreciated; CPR-trained / other certifications. Specific duties- pickup from school, engaging activities after school, snack prep, dinner prep and possibly feeding, tidying house, help with children’s laundry if needed.
Parent’s are both DC lawyers and father is active in politics. Working with high profile families in the past is a plus but not a must.

Expectations and Duties

Daily childcare tasks include:
Changing, feeding, bathing, structured sleep and mealtime
Meal/bottle prep and management with Mom
Creating thoughtful developmental activities such as outdoor play, reading, creative play and social time
Family shopping and errands
Travel and overnight care when needed
Keep the house neat and tidy
Family laundry and folding
Organizational tasks and family errands
Travel and overnight care when needed (esp. summer months)
Various transport needs for the family: to and from work, activities, grocery shop, doctors visits, school, etc
Plan the household daily schedule

Possible Property Management Functions

Care and feeding the horses (none currently), llamas (2) and chickens (~10)
Ordering of animal feed, hay, products
Barn management and care for each season
Landscaping: trees, shrubs, grass cutting, pond and fish, swimming pool, firewood, fencing, seasonal preparations, and typical handyman operations for routine maintenance of the house and property.

Work Schedule and Hours

Typical work schedule of Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday.
2 days off per week, maintaining flexibility for the needs of the families complex travel schedule.
45-60 hours per week (40 hrs guaranteed)
Major holidays off with pay, and 3 weeks paid vacation per year.
First vacations are taken after 6 months of employment at the employer s convenience.

Live In or Live Out State College PA

Wonderful, fun family is looking for a nanny or au pair to help with their 3 children and light housework. Dad Sascha is a college professor and mom Stephanie is a political activist and writer. They have three daughters who live with them full-time. A is almost 3, E is almost 2, and S is our brand-new baby! In addition, Sascha s older daughter, C, age 8, visits during holidays and summers. We also have a beloved Australian shepherd named Sweet Pea. A and E attend local school full-time.

Your responsibilities would include getting the kids ready for school in the morning, feeding them healthy snacks and dinners at night, some school drop-off and pick-up runs, bath times, diapers, potty training, and light laundry and tidying up. You would also watch S at times. Some weekend work required, but the family will make sure you have at least two consecutive days off a week. Some flexibility is needed for those unexpected days when the older girls are home sick from school!

Ideal nanny will be someone who has experience with young children, who values their educational and creative development, and who takes joy in raising outgoing and courageous girls. TV is not allowed during the day, so please be prepared for that! Daughters are dual US-Brazilian citizens, so native or fluent Portuguese speaker who could continue speaking to the girls in Portuguese (their last two au pairs were also Brazilian.) would be a plus!

Based in State College, Pennsylvania, nanny is welcome to live in or out, depending on your preference. A huge plus would be the ability to travel with the family during the week to DC if needed. The family also has a home in DC and often will go back and forth. This is NOT a requirement!
